    Scheme Name– Scheduled Castes/Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989

    Eligibility – Persecuted person under the provisions of Scheduled Castes/Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.

    Amount – There is a provision to provide financial assistance to persecuted Scheduled Castes/Tribes persons in various types of persecution incidents in different stages.

    Process of distribution – As soon as the persecuted Scheduled Caste person files an FIR, there is a provision for the department to provide immediate financial assistance to the beneficiary in the first stage. Generally, in case of proven crime, there is a provision to provide financial assistance ranging from Rs. 40000/- to Rs. 500000/- to the persecuted person.

    1 Drinking or eating unfit or disgusting substances (Section 3(1)(i)) Each victim will receive a minimum of ₹60,000 or more, depending on the nature and seriousness of the crime, and in proportion to the disrespect, humiliation, harm, and defamation suffered by the victim. The payment will be as follows:

    • 25% when the charge sheet is sent to the court.
    • 75% when convicted by lower courts.
    2 Causing harm, humiliation, or provoking (Section 3(1)(ii)) Job role here

    4 Unlawfully occupying land or farming on it, etc. (Section 3(1)(iv)) Depending on the nature and seriousness of the offense, at least ₹60,000 or more will be provided, and the land/area/water supply will be restored at government expense where necessary. Full payment will be made when the charge sheet is sent to the court.
    5 Land/area or water-related offense (Section 3(1)(v))
    6 Forced labor, bonded labor (Section 3(1)(vi)) Each victim will receive at least ₹60,000. 25% at the First Information Report (FIR) stage, and 75% when convicted in lower courts.
    7 Voting rights violation (Section 3(1)(vii)) Each victim will receive up to ₹50,000, depending on the nature and seriousness of the crime.
    8 False and malicious legal proceedings (Section 3(1)(viii)) ₹60,000 or actual legal costs and damage compensation, whichever is less, after the conclusion of the trial.
    9 False or trivial information (Section 3(1)(ix))
    10 Defamation, insult, and contempt (Section 3(1)(x)) Depending on the nature of the offense, each victim will receive up to ₹60,000, with 25% when the charge sheet is sent to the court, and the remainder when convicted.
    11 Insulting a woman’s modesty (Section 3(1)(xi)) Each victim will receive ₹120,000, with 50% paid after the medical examination and the remaining 50% upon conclusion of the trial.
    12 Sexual exploitation of a woman (Section 3(1)(xii)) Job role here
    13 Contaminating water (Section 3(1)(xiii)) Up to ₹250,000, including the cost to clean the contaminated water or restore general services, as determined by the district administration.
    14 Depriving someone of customary rights of passage (Section 3(1)(xiv)) Up to ₹250,000 or the full cost of restoring the rights of passage and compensating for any damage, if any. 50% when the charge sheet is sent to the court and 50% when convicted in lower courts.
    15 Forcing someone to leave their residence (Section 3(1)(xv)) The restoration of the place, the right to reside, and compensation of ₹60,000 for each victim, as well as reconstruction of the house at government expense if destroyed. Full payment will be made when the charge sheet is sent to the lower courts.
    16 Giving false evidence (Section 3(2)(i) and (ii)) At least ₹250,000 or full compensation for the harm or loss caused. 50% paid when the charge sheet is sent to the court and 50% when convicted in lower courts.
    17 Offenses punishable under the Indian Penal Code with imprisonment of 10 years or more (Section 3(2)) Depending on the nature and seriousness of the crime, each victim or their dependent will receive at least ₹120,000, if specified in the schedule. Otherwise, the amount will vary as per the provisions.
    18 Harassment by a public servant (Section 3(2)(vii)) Full compensation for the harm or loss caused. 50% paid when the charge sheet is sent to the court and 50% when convicted in lower courts.
    19 Definition of disability (Section 2 of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995) Each victim will receive at least ₹250,000, with 50% paid at the FIR stage, 25% when the charge sheet is sent to the court, and 25% when convicted in lower courts.

    • For non-earning family members, at least ₹40,000.
    • For earning family members, at least ₹80,000.

    21 Murder, death, genocide, rape, gang rape, permanent disability, and dacoity victims In addition to the relief paid under the above headings, the following relief will be provided within three months from the date of the atrocity:

    • ₹3000 per month to each widow or dependent of the deceased Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe person, or a member of the family will be given employment or land, and if required, a house will be bought immediately.
    • Full education and maintenance costs for the victims’ children, or they will be admitted to ashram schools/residential schools.
    • Provision of basic necessities (utensils, rice, wheat, pulses, etc.) for three months.
    22 Completely destroyed/burnt house If the house has been burnt or destroyed, a brick and stone house will be built or arranged at government expense.
