    Scholarship for Person with Disabilities


    1. Scholarship scheme for disabled students :

    Due to economic disparities, students with disabilities are unable to receive education/training and are unable to become self-reliant in their livelihood. Therefore, interested students are made self-reliant through education by giving them scholarships under this scheme. So that they can lead a respectable life in the society by getting education and vocational training.
    • Scholarships are provided to disabled students from class 1 to post-graduation education as per the following rates and standards

    • The disabled student should have at least 40 percent disability certificate given by the Chief Medical Officer.
    • The student should be studying regularly in any educational institution.
    • The annual income of the student’s parents/guardian should be up to Rs.24000/-.
    • The student will have to submit the prescribed application form for scholarship along with the certificates to his/her educational institution.
    • The concerned institution will examine the scholarship application and send it to the District Social Welfare Officer by 31st July.

    The District Social Welfare Officer will examine the application form of the student and if found eligible for scholarship, will transfer the scholarship amount to the account of the institution/student.
    • The scholarship rates are as follows. ( effective from the year 2005-06 )

    3) Special scholarship to children of persons engaged in unclean occupations (tanning, leather tanning, scavenging):

    This special scheme, 100% centrally funded, has been in operation since 1977-78. Before 1991-92, only students studying from class 6 to 10 staying in hostels were given benefits under this scheme.

    The income limit of guardians/parents has been abolished in this scheme. Now the Government of India has revised the processing rates of this scheme as follows, which is effective from 01 April, 2008.
    • The process of approval/payment of scholarship is followed by the school as per Pre-Maxim Scholarship.
    • The amount of scholarship is Rs.8000 per annum.
